Panasonic announce LiveU enabled AG-HPX600

Mobile cellular network connectivity brings new flexibilty for remote camera teams and broadcasters

Wiesbaden, Germany, 6th September (2012) Panasonic Professional Camera Solutions has announced a new development in its ongoing collaboration with LiveU.  LiveU, the pioneer of portable video-over-cellular solutions, and Panasonic first announced their alliance at IBC in 2011.  Today’s announcement comes as an exciting new development for remote and field based mobile camera teams and broadcasters seeking simple, fast and more cost effective means to relay rushes and live content for transmission.  The solution marries LiveU technology with the latest Panasonic broadcast equipment in one fully integrated camera solution.

Using the recently announced Panasonic AJ-HPX600 P2 camcorder, which at 3.2kg sets new industry standards as the lightest¹ weight shoulder mounted camcorder with low power consumption, a new 2/3 type MOS sensor and high sensitivity² the solution provides live video uplink capabilities by using a highly innovative LU40 video uplink device.  The LU40 will be linked via the cameras interface, giving camera operators a real-time indication of LiveU’s transmission status and video transmission quality. With the LU40 enabled HPX600, a camera operator will be able to manage the video uplink while shooting, a must for a one-person remote crew.

Samuel Wasserman, LiveU’s CEO, said, “Our strategic partnership with Panasonic offers customers a powerful, all-in-one tool for transmitting live HD video from the field, at any time. Today’s announcement represents an important technical milestone, made possible by the strong working relationship and close collaboration between our development teams.”

Whilst the Panasonic HPX600 camera supports the most advanced 10-bit, 4:2:2 AVC-Intra recording 100/50, DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV as standard both Panasonic and LiveU will be providing further detail on the integrated camera mobile connectivity solution as the AG-HPX600 launch approaches.  Nigel Wilkes, Group Manager of PSCEU UK & Ireland, Professional Camera Solutions said, “We want to deliver solutions for our broadcast customers that evolve with the pace of new technology, and the upgradable HPX600 camcorder platform gives us the flexibility to do that. When the operation of the LU40 is integrated within the camera, the complete system provides a high-quality video feed with the easiest remote operation yet.”

With a price of EUR 13,800 RRP (excluding VAT) , AG-HPX600 is scheduled for end of September, and future upgrade firmware will enable integration with LU40. Customers are encouraged to visit Panasonic at IBC2012 stand 9.C45, LiveU at stand 14.365, and follow further updates on the Panasonic pro-camera website here
